Peter Knego's
MidShipCentury
Floating Fittings from
Famous Ocean Liners and Cruise Ships

The cover is facing forward from the aft/port wing of Golden Star Cruises' SS AEGEAN TWO as the sun set behind the caldera at Santorini. A moment in time from a beautiful, still vital ship in her twilight years. Photo and copyright Peter Knego 2007.

One of two 2008 desk calendars from P.K. Productions featuring twelve images of passenger ships of all shapes and sizes captured by Peter Knego during his non-stop travels in 2007. The ships range from the newest and largest (EMERALD PRINCESS, NAVIGATOR OF THE SEAS, and NORWEGIAN PEARL) to sleek vintage beauties (AEGEAN TWO, BLUE MONARCH, OCEAN MONARCH), grand riverboats (AMERICAN QUEEN) and those with auxiliary sails (SEA CLOUD, WIND STAR). The settings span from Antarctica to Alaska, Istanbul, Patmos, Civitavecchia, and even West Virginia, including a stunning yet sad view of the ANASTASIS on the beach at Alang, India.

The calendar measures 8.25 by 4 inches and is printed on high quality glossy card stock.

January shows Voyages of Discovery's sleek MV DISCOVERY (ex ISLAND PRINCESS) at icy anchor in Paradise Harbor, Antarctica. In the foreground, two gentoo penguins nuzzle in accidental tribute to the former Love Boat (and identical sister the PACIFIC PRINCESS). Photo and copyright Peter Knego 2007.

February's cover girl is the lovely AEGEAN TWO from an approaching tender as she lay off Patmos. The former AUSONIA is one of the most beautifully proportioned ships ever built and is still in excellent condition, thanks to her owners, Louis Cruise Lines, and wonderful charterers, Golden Star Cruises. Taken from the observation deck of the towering EMERALD PRINCESS at Civitavecchia, March features the elegant and still glamorous SEA CLOUD racing toward RCI's monolithic NAVIGATOR OF THE SEAS. Photo and copyright Peter Knego 2007.

While wandering around Kusadasi on a scorching day, I caught April's shot of a sleeping man and the sleeping giant, EMERALD PRINCESS. Photo and copyright Peter Knego 2007.

May features the ever-sleek, Chantiers de l'Atlantique-built BLUE MONARCH, the former RENAISSANCE of 1966, which has more than her share of features inspired by the SS FRANCE of 1962. Photo and copyright Peter Knego 2007.

June's image of Louis Cruise Line's CRISTAL and a nearly full moon were taken from the afterdecks of Monarch Classic Cruises' BLUE MONARCH as the two plied through the "wine dark seas" of Homer enroute from Patmos to Rhodes. Photo and copyright Peter Knego 2007.

July features the handsome WIND STAR with rigging unfurled as she passes Hagia Sophia and the Blue Mosque on her way out of Istanbul. Photo and copyright Peter Knego 2007.

August features NCL's latest Freestyle vessel, NORWEGIAN PEARL in a snowy, mountainous backdrop at Juneau. Photo and copyright Peter Knego 2007.

September reveals the sculpted perfection of ANASTASIS' 1953-built hull at low tide after her beaching at Alang, India for scrapping. A sight as beautiful as it is sad. Photo and copyright Peter Knego 2007.

October was taken from the West Virginia banks of the Ohio River on a most "Uncommon" journey from Cincinnati to Pittsburgh aboard the riverboat AMERICAN QUEEN. Photo and copyright Peter Knego 2007.

November features the sturdy, distinguished OCEAN MONARCH from the afterdecks of AEGEAN TWO at Patmos. Photo and copyright Peter Knego 2007.

December brings us back aboard the AEGEAN TWO for a twilight study of her brightly lit wheelhouse and forward superstructure as the moon rises above the cliffs of Santorini, just beyond her port bridge wing. Photo and copyright Peter Knego 2007.
