The famed, late Genoa-based ceramist, sculptor, painter, illustrator, and animator Emanuele Luzzati did some extraordinary work for the highly underrated STELLA OCEANIS. The Aphrodite Dining Room featured approximately 150 of his stunning ceramics situated in its corners and along its perimeter. Some are parts of a larger motif of two or three pieces, and many are individual works. Even without their corresponding pieces, as art, every one stands on its own. They tell the tales of Homer with a heavy slant on ancient Cretan symbology. Most of these were purchased immediately after the first container arrived, but a few have now become available and are priced individually. This is an extremely rare opportunity to own an original ceramic work by this legendary artist whose work has graced so many important liners over the years. Sadly, he passed away on 27 January 2007 at the age of 85.

I found a few more of these while digging through my storage units in late January of 2007.

Please visit the archives/sold items to see some other ceramics which are no longer available but lovely to look at.

Note: Unusual shape to fit on a column, this ceramic has a glazed 3.5 inch side.

The wrestler and the bull come up often in Luzzati's work for the STELLA OCEANIS. This was one of several made for the Aphrodite Dining Room. Unfortunately, the bull half of the ceramic set is gone, but this work stands quite magnificently on its own. This was a corner piece and has an extra 3.5 inch side. A chip is missing from the extra side, but it does not affect the presentation. The surface with the wrestler is in excellent condition.

This was a corner piece and has an extra 3.5 inch side. I believe it depicts Cerberus, the guard dog of Hades, but it may just be a Minoan dog. This is one of the most spectacular of all the OCEANIS Aphrodite Luzzatis I have seen and is in excellent condition overall.
