Original Vintage CP Materials Unpolished But Beautiful Heavy, Solid Nickel Railing Strip 77 Inches Long $175
Enough cannot be said about the standard and quality of post war British shipbuilding. The EMPRESS OF CANADA was a dying breed when she debuted in 1961, but she was a magnificently crafted and sturdy ship. The materials, such as this nickel handrail, are the finest of their era.
Several views of the railing. Photos and copyright Peter Knego 2006.
With a little Brite Boy and a nice buffer, this railing will polish up beautifully. Had I more time, I would do so myself, but there are many other items to add in the ensuing weeks, so this one will go up "as is". There are three joints (two with three screw holes and one with two screw holes) to affix this magnificent strip. I would recommend finding a wooden stud or two to make sure it is firmly attached. Also, with dry wall, toggle bolts will be absolutely necessary. This piece is deceptively heavy and needs to be affixed where it will endure not only its own weight, but that of people pulling on it. This lovely strip is both practical and aesthetic.
On the underside of the strip, it is stamped "Main Deck". Unfortunately, my photos could not pick that up.
