Throughout her Italian career, EUGENIO C was filled with some of the nation's finest artwork. In 1987, she was given a USD $25 million upgrading at the T Mariotti shipyard in Genoa. At that time, she was refitted with a new showroom and certain modifications to her public areas and accommodation. In the dining room, Roman architect Giuseppe de Lorio oversaw the addition of new art, including panels by Rome-based artists Colacino and Sinisca (the latter has his own museum near Florence). When the lovely ship showed up on the beach of Alang, these panels were still extant.

These remarkable panels combine both fine etchings and paintwork to bring their subjects to life. The colors involve foresty greens, deep, earthy maroons, and amber accents. There is a melancholy to the Sinisca panels versus the more upbeat tones of the Colacinos. The unpainted portions of the reflective surface bring the viewer and real life surroundings into the imagery (and thus, my apologies for various reflections of cars and Southern California suburbia as I attempted to photograph these). In addition to his paintings, Sinisca is an internationally celebrated sculptor, which might explain why he added texture to these works. This panel, which is smaller than the first three listed, depicts a tree on a terraced hillside.
