A detail of the anchor/flag logo and the Ginori imprint on the underside. Photos and copyright Peter Knego 2006.

I became very familiar with this beautiful logo when visiting the MS PHILIPPINES (ex AUGUSTUS) in Manila several years ago. She had this pattern on many of her original dishes, which I would later learn was the latter day Italian Line's first class logo. Needless to say, it came as quite a shock to discover a small group of these at one of Alang's traders. I have no idea what ship they came from as no Italia passenger ship has been to Alang. Perhaps these came from a freighter or, more likely, a ferry that was based in Italy at the time Italia closed its doors. It is possible that the crockery from the last Italia ships was sold or transferred to other members of the reorganized Finmare fleet.

These have the Richard Ginori imprint on their underside and are extremely limited in quantity.

Special thanks to Carl Illardi for clarification on the first versus tourist class origins of these dishes.
