I'd been waiting for this door for quite some time as I have another in my private collection and several friends have been eyeing it! This is the classic, solid and very heavy (two inches thick) "porthole" door that one sees on Boat or Promenade Decks aboard vintage liners. There were several of these on IVERNIA/FRANCONIA/FEDOR SHALYAPIN's upper decks.

Above, a similar door on board the ship, from my visit to FEDOR SHALYAPIN in 1997 at Iliychevsk, Ukraine and the "teak" side. Photos and copyright Peter Knego 1997 and 2008.

A source who knows wood better than me says this door is made of teak, although it appears as though it could also be mahogany. In any case, it is incredibly solid, in excellent condition with hardware intact and a wonderful remnant of the golden transatlantic era of Cunard Line and the craftsmen of John Brown and Co, Clydebank.
