Top, the back side of the door. Above, detail of the brass handle. Photos and copyright Peter Knego 2010. There were two of these single doors in the OLYMPIA's Forward Main Deck lobby, one leading to the accommodation on the forward starboard side and the other leading to the accommodation on the forward port side. This door was on the starboard side. The veneer is that gorgeous English Figured Sycamore found throughout the lobby and in the stairtowers. The oval window is framed in anodized aluminum and the original glass was replaced in latter years with plexi.
Top, the front side of the frame. Above, the rear side of the frame and a detailed view of one of the original brass hinges. Photos and copyright Peter Knego 2010.
The frame was fronted with a beautiful anodized aluminum facade to match the insets around the glass. It is what one would see from inside of the ship's lobby. The frame, itself, is constructed of mahogany and contains the original brass door hinges. The rear side has mahogany insets along the glass. Photos and copyright Peter Knego 2010.
