Mahogany Frame With Anodized Aluminum Front Facade Brass Handles On Front Door Faces Mahogany Trim Price: $2,750 for entire ensemble plus shipping
Top, the front. Above, the rear. Photos and copyright Peter Knego 2010. There were two pairs of these beautiful doors in the OLYMPIA's Forward Main Deck lobby, one on each side. This pair is from the port side. These are the first doors one would pass through once inside the ship's shell doors, as an embarking first class passenger on the OLYMPIA. They are also what one would pass through first on the REGAL EMPRESS in her final years of cruising from Ft. Lauderdale. They were meant to give a memorable impression and succeeded on every level. The veneer is that gorgeous English Figured Sycamore found throughout the lobby and in the stairtowers and the band along the bottom is mahogany. The oval windows are framed in anodized aluminum and the glass is textured and beveled.
Top, the front side of the frame. Above, the shipyard notations along the side of the frame. On the inside of the lobby, the frames were fronted with a beautiful anodized aluminum facade to match the insets around the glass. The glass on the left door is frosted and beveled while the glass on the right side is textured, frosted and beveled. The frame, itself, is constructed of mahogany. Photos and copyright Peter Knego 2010.
The cracked glass inset on the right hand door. Photo and copyright Peter Knego 2010. These doors and their frame are in remarkable condition, although the glass in the right hand door was cracked at some point late in the ship's career. All part of the enduring life story of the SS OLYMPIA/MV CARIBE I/MV REGAL EMPRESS.
