One of the forward stairtower fixtures on the ship during the dismantling process. Photo and copyright Peter Knego 2009.

These fixtures were yet another, uniquely iconic bit of the SS OLYMPIA. They were located in the corners of the landings of the forward (First Class) stairtower and were backlit with flourescent lights that cast a glow onto the English Figured Sycamore woodwork that surrounded them. Mirrors inside the top and bottom of each recess gave the impression that each fixture stretched into infinity.

These would also look remarkable hung horizontally from a ceiling with the stars lit from behind. The paint is well-worn from years of exposure on the ship and removal at Alang. But that is also part of what makes these so authentic. Only five made it out of Alang intact.
