These stunning chairs are from the famous train ferry, the 1954-built, 4,084 gt KONG FREDERIK IX. Sold in April 2009 to the Danish Maritime Museum at Elsinore where they will be restored in tribute to the King's favorite ship. They are beautifully made with enduring and stylish mahogany frames and lovely blue wool upholstery that sadly will need replacement. Their structural condition is excellent. I have held off selling these as I wanted them for my own collection, but there is no more space for me in Moorpark!
The KONG FREDERIK was to have been preserved as one of the last ships of her kind at Copenhagen but funding ran dry and the ship was surreptitiously sold for scrap, sneaking off under the name FREDERIK, and later RIKY, for Alang. Her beaching and ultimate scrapping was a controversial affair with the Danish government wanting her recalled, but it all came too late for the old girl. She was finished off in September of 2005 and very little was salvaged from her save for six chairs and a settee.
