Measurements: 25.5 Inch Diameter Top, 22 Inches Tall

Very little survived of the original SS STATENDAM after her many conversions. Over the years, her wonderful murals and heavy wooden Dutch furniture were replaced with more contemporary works of art and modern, ordinary furniture. The last havens of the ship's 1950s glory days were the Cinema, the Indoor Pool, portions of the stairtowers and lobbies, and most of the former first class suites.

These round tables are from the ship's suites, although there was a time in the STATENDAM's post "Cinderella refit" era after 1972 that some were used in the forward observation lounge that was later converted into the owner's suite on the REGENT STAR. They are also very similar and some are identical to the cabin tables that still exist on the 1959-built SS ROTTERDAM,as many of the fittings on STATENDAM were ordered in duplicate by designer Tienhoven for her bigger sister. I saved ten of these and there are now only two left.

This particular table top has a few dings and stains in the melamine and there are some slight dings in the chrome edge of the table top, although it is in overall good but not perfect condition. The table base, which is in excellent condition, is weighed down to prevent tipping, making the table unit extremely heavy.

Here is a view of a similar table on the SS ROTTERDAM. Photo and copyright Peter Knego 1997.

Fans of Holland America should especially love this piece as it evokes those halcyon days of a once Dutch-owned post war "spotless fleet".
