A vintage brochure view of a first class cabin on board WINDSOR CASTLE with one of the chairs in its earliest covering. Peter Knego collection.

These wonderful little chairs came as a very pleasant surprise during my sad visit to Alang to witness the dismantling of the former WINDSOR CASTLE in September of 2005. I am not sure if these were specifically designed by Munro or Inchbald, but they were certainly selected by one or the other for use in the ship's first class cabins. They are so solid and beautifully constructed (typical vintage British shipyard quality) with heavy wooden framework and the ubiquitous network of steel springs for inner support. I was able to personally inspect each one I purchased and am happy to report that most made it here relatively unscathed. On some, a nick or two, but for the most part the quality vinyl or leather covering (I am told by one source leather and another that it is the silk-lined vinyl) is in very good to excellent condition. Some TLC and a little "Armor All" always helps!

These fine chairs are like elegant cappuccino cups in a world of coffee mugs.

A pair of each color gathered around one of the "Bird Tables". Please note the maroons are now sold out. Photo and copyright Peter Knego 2006.
